How Riverdale is building a leaner wholesale operation with Orderchamp Cloud

Riverdale simplified its B2B setup, sharpened its focus and built a leaner foundation for growth.

When Sjoerd Trompetter and his business partner took over Riverdale at the beginning of 2026, they stepped into an established Dutch home and lifestyle brand with a long history — and an opportunity to build a much leaner organisation around it.

After previously co-founding and growing Naïf, Sjoerd brought that experience into Riverdale with a clear focus: simplify the business, sharpen the assortment and rebuild its technology stack around the way the company wants to grow today.

That meant moving away from heavier systems and choosing tools that could work together without adding unnecessary complexity. Orderchamp Cloud became part of that new setup, supporting Riverdale’s B2B sales alongside Exact Online, Simpel Stock and Shopify.

A fresh start for an established brand

Riverdale has been part of the home and lifestyle market for decades. Rather than starting a brand from zero, Sjoerd and his team are now taking an existing name into its next phase.

That also creates room to make difficult decisions more quickly.

“Riverdale is a really lovely existing brand that's been around for 25 years, but where reorganisation is also needed. So it's somewhat easier to make hard choices from a distance.”

One of the biggest lessons Sjoerd brought with him from building Naïf is how much the retail landscape has changed. E-commerce has become more important, large retailers play a bigger role and modern technology makes it possible to operate with a much leaner setup.

Riverdale therefore rebuilt its infrastructure and technology stack almost entirely from scratch.

Simplifying the B2B setup

Riverdale’s wholesale processes were already largely digital. The company previously used another B2B portal and a sales app designed heavily around sales representatives, alongside systems supporting its own physical stores.

But Riverdale’s sales model had changed. Its stores were closed, the business was working less with sales representatives on the road and trade shows were becoming a smaller part of the sales approach.

The team therefore had the opportunity to reconsider which tools it actually still needed.

“Then you go and evaluate all the tools again. And yes, then we found Orderchamp a much simpler solution.”

After seven years on Orderchamp where Sjeord and his team saw Naïf grow into one of the top performing Kids & Baby brands on the Marketplace — the team brought Riverdale to the same channel. Four months in, Riverdale has already reached over 7,000 retail buyers and ranks in the top 20 brands for buyer reach.

Today, Riverdale uses Orderchamp for B2B sales within a leaner technology stack that also includes Exact Online for accounting, Simpel Stock for order management and integrations, and Shopify for e-commerce.

Making ordering easier for different types of customers

Retail customers can now place their orders directly through Riverdale’s B2B Portal, giving existing customers a familiar and straightforward way to order.

But not every wholesale customer works in the same way.

Larger retailers often have their own purchasing systems and send orders as files instead of manually placing them through a portal. Riverdale therefore also uses AI Order Convert to bring these incoming orders into its workflow.

“The upload tool — our customer service team is very happy with that.”

For Riverdale, this makes Orderchamp Cloud useful beyond self-service ordering. It gives the team another way to process orders from customers with different purchasing processes, while very large retail partners increasingly move towards EDI connections.

More focus on the products that matter

Technology is only one part of Riverdale’s transformation.

The team has also significantly reduced and rationalised the assortment, creating a more focused collection that can receive more commercial attention.

“We had a really lovely assortment, but it was far too broad, and we've brought enormous focus to it.”

That focus is supporting Riverdale as it strengthens relationships with larger retail chains, grows its gifting business and continues expanding through its own webshop and e-commerce channels.

Looking ahead: bringing Riverdale to 1,500 stores

As announced at B2B Next, one of the biggest milestones ahead is Riverdale's partnership with Kruidvat. From September, the brand is preparing to launch in 1,500 stores, with the intention of expanding the partnership further next year.

It is a major operational undertaking. Products are being manufactured in the Netherlands and Asia, while the team prepares everything from logistics and product content to copy and the supporting marketing campaign.

Sjoerd expects the increased physical visibility to benefit Riverdale beyond the partnership itself.

“My experience over the past few years is that it makes all the other channels grow too, because you simply get a lot of visibility.”

Alongside its expansion into larger retail, Riverdale is putting more emphasis on gifting, loyalty partnerships and e-commerce. With a more focused assortment and a leaner operational foundation behind it, the goal is clear: give the brand the focus it needs to grow again.
