Shopify B2B now works on Basic, Grow and Advanced. See what Shopify wholesale includes without Plus, where it falls short, and when a dedicated B2B portal fits better.
In this article
For years, Shopify wholesale meant one of two things: upgrading to Shopify Plus, or adding a wholesale app to your store. That changed on 2 April 2026, when Shopify made its core B2B features available on the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans at no extra cost.
So for most brands, the question is no longer whether you can sell B2B on Shopify without Plus. You can. The real question is whether Shopify's B2B features are enough for how your wholesale business actually runs: how many price agreements you have, how your reps take orders, and how retailers find you and reorder.
In this guide, we cover what Shopify wholesale includes on each plan, where it falls short for wholesale-first brands, and the three ways to run wholesale alongside a Shopify store. If you're weighing up an upgrade, see our Shopify Plus B2B vs Orderchamp Cloud comparison.
Can you sell wholesale on Shopify without Shopify Plus?
Yes. Since April 2026, merchants on Shopify Basic, Grow and Advanced can sell to business buyers with native B2B features in the Shopify admin. You can create company profiles with their own buyers and locations, set up B2B catalogs with wholesale prices, add volume pricing and quantity rules, and offer net payment terms.
Not everything moved down from Plus. Unlimited catalogs, catalogs assigned directly to a single company, deposits and partial payments are still Plus-only. Shopify Plus itself starts at around $2,300 per month, so for many brands the gap between the plans decides how far native Shopify wholesale can take them.

When Shopify's native B2B is enough
For a D2C brand with a small wholesale side, the native features may be all you need. Shopify wholesale on your current plan works well if:
You sell to a handful of trade customers on one or two price agreements.
Your retailers are happy to order online through your existing store, with wholesale prices shown once they log in.
You don't need deposits on pre-orders or partial payments.
Your wholesale orders mostly come in online, not through reps, trade shows or email.
Where Shopify wholesale falls short for wholesale-first brands
Once wholesale becomes a core part of your revenue, the limits show up quickly. These are the ones brands hit most often.
Three catalogs is a ceiling on your pricing
On Basic, Grow and Advanced, you get up to three active B2B catalogs, shared across all your B2B markets. Most wholesale brands have more price agreements than that: standard wholesale, distributors, key accounts and export prices per country. Giving one retailer their own negotiated prices needs a catalog assigned directly to that company, which is Plus-only. If customer-specific pricing is part of how you sell, this is usually the first wall you hit. Our guide to wholesale pricing strategy explains why most brands end up with more than three price lists.
Your wholesale store is still your consumer store
Shopify B2B runs in the same store, theme and product catalog as your D2C shop. That keeps everything in one admin, but wholesale buyers don't shop like consumers. They want to scan SKUs, check case packs and minimum order quantities, and reorder 40 lines in a few minutes. Shopify offers a quick order list, but the product pages, content and navigation around it are still built for consumers.
Deposits and partial payments are Plus-only
Seasonal brands often ask for a deposit when a retailer places a pre-order, then invoice the rest at delivery. On Basic, Grow and Advanced you can offer net terms, but deposit requirements, partial payments and payment requests per fulfillment are only available on Plus. Read more about wholesale payment terms and how to run a seasonal pre-order cycle.
Reps and trade shows still need their own tool
Shopify's B2B tools are built around the online store and draft orders in the admin. But a lot of wholesale demand is captured somewhere else: in a showroom, during a customer visit or on the trade show floor, often without reliable WiFi. Writing those orders with the full catalog and each customer's prices usually means adding a separate order-taking app.

Email and PDF orders still get typed in by hand
Whatever store you build, plenty of retailers will keep sending orders by email, as a PDF or in a spreadsheet. Shopify doesn't turn those into orders for you, so someone on your team still copies them in line by line. That's the job AI Order Convert was built for.
It serves the retailers you have, not new ones
Shopify B2B gives your existing customers a place to order. It doesn't help you find new retailers. For that, brands still rely on trade shows, agents and B2B marketplaces.

Three ways to run wholesale on Shopify
Option | Best for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
Native Shopify B2B on Basic, Grow or Advanced | D2C brands with a few trade customers and simple pricing | Up to 3 catalogs, no deposits, and reps and email orders need other tools |
Shopify Plus or a wholesale app | D2C-led brands that want wholesale inside one Shopify admin | Plus starts at around $2,300/mo, and apps add monthly fees and dependencies |
Shopify for D2C plus a dedicated B2B portal | Brands where wholesale is a core sales channel | A second platform to run, connected to your Shopify store |

1. Use Shopify's native B2B on your current plan
Start here if wholesale is a side channel. Set up a few companies, one wholesale catalog and net terms, and see how your retailers respond. It costs nothing extra, and you'll learn quickly whether three catalogs and online-only ordering are enough.
2. Upgrade to Shopify Plus or add a wholesale app
If you want everything in one Shopify admin, Plus removes the catalog cap and adds company-specific catalogs, deposits and partial payments. Wholesale apps such as SparkLayer add B2B ordering on top of your existing store instead. Both keep wholesale tied to a platform built for consumer ecommerce, and the costs add up as you stack apps. Compare the options in 5 Shopify Plus B2B alternatives, or see how Orderchamp Cloud compares with Shopify Plus and SparkLayer.
3. Keep Shopify for D2C and add a dedicated B2B portal
Many brands keep Shopify for their consumer webshop and run wholesale on a platform built for it. Retailers get their own branded B2B Portal, your consumer store stays focused on consumers, and products, stock and orders stay in sync between the two. This is how Orderchamp Cloud works with Shopify.
How to set up wholesale on Shopify: a 6-step checklist
Whichever route you choose, work through these steps before you invite your first retailer.
Map your price agreements. List every price level you offer today, from standard wholesale to key accounts and export. If you count more than three, native Shopify B2B won't cover them without Plus.
Set your order rules. Decide minimum order values, MOQs, case packs and volume breaks for each product.
Agree your payment terms. Choose which retailers pay upfront, which get net 30, and whether pre-orders need a deposit.
Decide who gets access. Approve retailers before they see your prices, and plan how you'll onboard new stockists with the right terms from day one.
List every order channel. Online reorders, reps, trade shows, email and phone all need a place to land.
Connect your back office. Make sure wholesale orders, stock and invoices flow into the systems you already use. Our guide to API integration for B2B shows how.
If your checklist includes more than three price lists, reps who sell offline or orders that arrive by email, that's the signal to look beyond Shopify's native B2B.
How Orderchamp Cloud works alongside your Shopify store
Orderchamp Cloud is a B2B sales platform for wholesale brands. It doesn't replace Shopify. It runs next to it: Shopify stays your D2C webshop, and Orderchamp Cloud handles everything that's specific to wholesale.
A branded B2B Portal. Retailers log in, see their own assortment, prices, minimum order amounts and payment terms, and reorder on their own. You can set price lists per customer, with no cap on how many.
A Sales App for reps and trade shows. The Sales App runs on iPad, iPhone and Mac and works offline, so orders written in showrooms and at trade shows go straight into the same system.
AI Order Convert. Orders that arrive by email or PDF become digital orders without retyping.
An optional marketplace. The Orderchamp marketplace puts your brand in front of retailers across Europe who are looking for new suppliers.

Orderchamp Cloud connects to Shopify through our integration partner ChannelEngine. Products, stock levels and pricing flow from Shopify into Orderchamp Cloud, where you set wholesale price lists, VAT rules, payment terms and minimum order amounts. Wholesale orders sync back into Shopify, so your warehouse keeps picking and shipping from one place. See how the Shopify integration works.
Pricing is published, with unlimited business customers and zero commission on orders. Flex from €49/mo gives you the branded B2B Portal for growing brands, and Fixed from €299/mo adds the full Cloud suite: unlimited Sales App users, AI Order Convert, Dropship Automation and personal onboarding.
Final verdict: is Shopify wholesale enough?
If wholesale is a side channel with a few trade customers and simple pricing, Shopify's native B2B on Basic, Grow or Advanced is a sensible place to start, and it costs nothing extra. If you're a D2C-led brand that wants everything in one admin and has the budget, Shopify Plus removes most of the limits.
But if wholesale is a core channel, with more than three price agreements, reps and trade shows, seasonal pre-orders and orders arriving by email, you'll outgrow it. Keeping Shopify for D2C and running wholesale on Orderchamp Cloud gives your retailers a portal built for how they buy, without paying for Plus.
